In this series, we’ll be interviewing team members at Quanergy to provide insight into what they do day-to-day at the company, and how they spend their time outside the office. In our fourth interview, we spoke with Quanergy’s new in-house General Counsel, Jerry Allison. When he’s not managing Quanergy’s legal matters, Jerry enjoys the outdoors, traveling, and spending time with his wife, their two children, and their German Shepherd, Zeke.
Q: What responsibilities will you be handling in your role at Quanergy?
Jerry: I’ll be responsible for managing the full range of Quanergy’s legal matters, but some key focus areas will be supporting the growth of the business on commercial transactions with customers, suppliers and partners, and working closely with management and the board to navigate all the new compliance requirements as Quanergy moves into its next chapter as a publicly-traded company. There will of course be all of the company’s routine daily legal matters, and I would also expect to work on strategic transactions when those opportunities present themselves. A big part of the role of General Counsel is serving as a business partner— so I’m looking forward to supporting the management team in any way I can to help take this company to the next level.
Q: What inspired you to pursue the opportunity to work with Quanergy?
Jerry: I’d say it was two things. First, the exciting, cutting-edge technology. Quanergy’s LiDAR solutions have the potential to be transformative across such a wide range of applications and markets. Secondly, it was Quanergy’s leadership team. It’s an accomplished and seasoned group– and in getting to know them a little bit through the process, I quickly came away with the sense of a genuinely collaborative environment. Where it’s not about ego, it’s about the success of the company. That was a team and story I wanted to be a part of.
Q: It’s mind-boggling how many applications this technology has. It’s almost endless how many ways it can be used. How does that affect your role in the company? Does it make it more challenging to work in so many different fields and industries?
Jerry: I have spent my legal career working for technology companies, and that’s an environment I enjoy. As a company lawyer it is important to develop a solid understanding of the technology and its applications, so that will certainly be a focus of mine. But I look forward to that learning process, so I can best support the team and the company’s growth.
Q: What aspect of the job are you looking forward to the most?
Jerry: That’s a tough question, but I’d say the chance to join the team at this early stage and contribute to something that I think can be a great success story.
Q: I see you’re a volunteer firefighter and EMT. What drove you to pursue this volunteer opportunity over the many other activities you could choose to do in your free time?
Jerry: We’re fortunate to be able to spend time in a small mountain community north of Phoenix. But mountains mean wildfires in AZ, so this seemed like a good way to contribute and give back to the community in a way that could potentially make a real difference. I also work with some really dedicated people and I appreciate being a part of that team. And, I also get some bonus points from my kids for driving fire trucks and responding to medical emergencies.
Q: What do you envision for Quanergy’s future?
Jerry: The future is always a tricky thing to predict, of course, but I think the sky’s the limit at Quanergy. The IoT and the real-time data that feeds it are becoming an integral part of our daily lives at an amazing pace, and I think Quanergy can play a major role as that trend continues. I’m excited to be part of the team here.
Q: Thank you, Jerry, and welcome to the team!
