The System Engineer will collaborate with hardware and software teams to understand and innovate on Quanergy technology architecture and product solutions. The candidate will work with the multi-disciplinary engineering teams to design and develop various system architecture modeling and setup prototype testings required in R&D/product development activities in the company. The candidate must be motivated to explore new technology frontiers and be able to work independently with minimum guidance. This is a hand-on research and development position with cross functional interaction responsibilities.


  • Collect and interpret customer feedback and convert to actionable requirements for product design and roadmap considerations, ensure the system integration and customer requirements are understood and addressed.
  • Develop system architecture based on product requirements and effectively communicate system solutions’ capability and potential.
  • Provide technical write-ups related to system, hardware, and software development on proposals and program bids.
  • Interact with technical team in selecting, evaluating, and/or developing component/system applications and packaging for selected platforms.
  • Participate in design, development and reviews for new system architecture, modeling and testing.
  • Work with internal engineering and business teams and external suppliers and customers to support technology and product concept development and execution.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.


  • 5 years of experience with optical sensor and system architecture modeling in radiometry and system integration and testing with thorough understanding of system trade-offs in multi-faceted parameter space, use the modern programming, modeling, and simulation tools (e.g. ZEMAX, Matlab/Simulink, C/C++, Python, etc.).
  • Demonstrated understanding with proficiency and knowledge in design, building, testing, analysis, and evaluation of optical systems.
  • Experience with NIR active and passive components, optical, opto-mechanical, and opto-electronic system design, image processing, using LIDAR, IR sensors, and digital electronics .
  • 2+ years of experience in technology communication, customer engagement and technical proposal documentation.


  • Required M.S. in Physical Science, Silicon Photonics, Optical Engineering, or related field, plus 5 years of hands-on optical system development and implementation experience.
  • Preferred: Ph.D. in Physical Science, Silicon Photonics, Optical Engineering, or related field.


  • Must have excellent technical writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex technology concepts and designs with clarity to senior management and customers.
  • Ability to prepare technical proposals and documentations.
  • Ability to design, simulate, test, and prototype component/system performance.
  • Must be able to perform essential duties independently.
