Ship to Shore Cranes (STS)

Optimizing ship docking

Reliably position equipment and prevent collisions at the dock. LiDAR sensors from Quanergy use advanced 3D perception to track the location of equipment and actively monitor areas around STS cranes, ships, and containers--initiating an alarm and/or automated stop if an obstacle is detected.


Container profiling, soft-landing

Prevent collisions between containers being moved and the top row of containers on a stack. During container handling, LiDAR sensors accurately profile containers and track container location to enable correct positioning for a soft landing on the stack.


Crane to Ship Anti-Collision

Avoid collisions between cranes and ships during operation. Long range LiDAR sensors accurately monitor the areas around the equipment and enable accurate crane positioning.


Crane Boom Anti Collision

Prevent collisions between the STS Crane boom and containers during operation. LiDAR can trigger alarms and stop actions to avoid collision and damage.


Bulk Material & Conveyor Belt Profiling

Workers unloading raw bulk materials from a docked ship examine the goods manually, which can put workers’ safety at risk and impact operational efficiency. Quanergy’s LiDAR solution has a 360-degree scanning range, a dense point cloud that enables higher resolution, and 3D object visualization. These features allow workers to detect the amount of bulk material and obtain their location, enabling operators to define the safe operation zone, move the grab bucket to the location, infer the number of operation rows, and estimate the grasping times of a single row or layer. With this data, the workers can have a clear, accurate visual display of the operation area for full unloading automation and soft-landing. With LiDAR, all this can be done quickly without potentially endangering workers.

Gantry Cranes (Rail Mounted Gantry Cranes)

Rubber tire gantry (RTG) cranes

Prevent collisions between RTG cranes, vehicles, and people. LiDAR can detect objects in warning and stop zones and identify the direction of cross travel so equipment can be stopped before a collision occurs.

Truck Positioning

Correctly position trucks under STS cranes to enable automatic container handover. LiDAR sensors measure the relative positioning of trucks and RTG cranes so materials can be safely and efficiently dropped off or picked up.

Object detection

Give AGVs and AITVs “robot vision” to accurately detect objects. For example, LiDAR sensors can be used to identify and locate containers for pick up and drop off.

Collision Prevention

Ensure reliable collision avoidance and navigational capabilities for AGVs and AITVs. LiDAR sensors are mounted to the vehicle and continuously scan the surrounding area. If an object is detected in the monitored area, an alarm sounds and an automatic stop is initiated. This helps prevent collisions between ground vehicles and other nearby obstacles.

Anti-Truck lifting

Occasionally, crane hoists can lift truck-trailers while one or more twistlocks are still locked or not completely loosened, resulting in expensive damage. To prevent such accidents, LiDAR solutions can detect the lift of the trailer immediately, allowing time for the crane controller system can stop and prevent trailers being lifted into the air. Other sensors that provide a similar service use a single beam with a narrow view, so the truck has to be in a specific spot or the detection won’t work. Quanergy’s LiDAR sensor provides a wide, 360-degree field of view, so it can monitor both the wheels and the surrounding area and detect lift no matter where the truck is placed.
