Overview

Designing a Living Digital Environment That Reacts to People

A leading global investment management firm set out to redefine the workplace experience in its New York offices by introducing “Dreamwall”: an interactive digital art display. Integrating generative AI models, motion sensors, and interactive triggers, the Dreamwall enhances engagement and creates a dynamic workplace experience.

The custom-trained AI engine delivers poetic visual storytelling, incorporating artistic prompts that naturally evolve over time.

The Challenge

Tracking People Without Intrusive Cameras

Instead of relying on numerous intrusive video cameras or static triggers, the firm needed a solution that allows:

  • Reliable detection and tracking of individuals throughout the area adjacent to Dreamwall without compromising privacy.
  • Integration with ultra-wide immersive LED panels.
  • A responsive and evolving AI-driven art experience.

The Solution

A LiDAR-Powered Interactive Digital Dreamscape

To bring this vision to life, the firm partnered with Gensler for interior design and AI-driven digital wall development and with Quanergy Solutions Inc. to provide the sensing backbone of the experience. The installation uses three high-performance Quanergy 3D LiDAR sensors.

These LiDAR sensors provided:

  • Anonymized people tracking with centimeter-level accuracy.
  • Real-time spatial awareness across a corridor nearly the length of a city block.
  • 360° continuous coverage and high reliability in any lighting or environmental condition.

Each time an individual was detected, Quanergy’s LiDAR would trigger generative visual content on a 240-foot-long Direct View LED wall. The display, powered by AI and trained on over 12,000 curated images, responded dynamically to movement, turning each person’s passage into a unique visual story.

The Result

A Living, Breathing Corridor of AI-Generated Art

The result is Dreamwall, a responsive corridor of light, movement, and story. Every two minutes, new AI-generated visuals unfold across the display. Visitors are greeted with evolving “dream” scenes that change based on their presence and location, creating a continuous, non-repeating experience throughout the day.

“The experience becomes more immersive and responsive, offering a truly transformative digital environment.”

Keeping Digital Experiences Fresh

“The Dreamwall, designed and implemented by Gensler, utilizes advanced AI-powered content production to tackle the ongoing challenge of keeping digital experiences fresh. Approximately every two minutes, new captivating imagery unfolds along a 33-foot ultra-fine pitch Direct View LED videowall, extending to 240 feet of LED along the entire passageway, nearly the length of a city block.”

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the AllianceBernstein Dreamwall?

The Dreamwall is an interactive digital art experience in AllianceBernstein’s New York offices, designed and implemented by Gensler. Generative AI visuals unfold along 240 feet of Direct View LED and respond to people as they move through the corridor.

How does 3D LiDAR drive the Dreamwall?

Three Quanergy 3D LiDAR sensors track people anonymously along the corridor. Each time a person is detected, the system triggers generative visual content on the LED wall, so every passage creates a unique visual story.

Does the Dreamwall use cameras or facial recognition?

No. Quanergy 3D LiDAR captures 3D points, not images or faces, so people are tracked anonymously and no personally identifiable information is collected.

How much of the corridor do the LiDAR sensors cover?

The three sensors provide real-time, 360° spatial awareness across a corridor nearly the length of a city block, in any lighting condition.

Can 3D LiDAR power other interactive art experiences?

Yes. The same anonymous tracking drives interactive walls, immersive rooms, live performance and outdoor installations. See interactive art with 3D LiDAR.
